Poinsettia Center: (Using Yellow)
Rnd 1) Ch 2; (8 sc) in 2nd chain from hook; join with a sl st in first sc: 8 sc.
Rnd 2) Ch 2, hdc in next sc, ch 1; * Puff st see special sts, ch 1; rep from * around; sk first ch 2, join with a sl st to top of hdc: 8 puff sts. Fasten off, secure ends.
Poinsettia variation by Dawn
Poinsettia Center Variation:
Repeat insructions for Poinsettia Center above using Hunter Green instead of Yellow. Using Yellow for "Pollen", thread tapestry needle with yarn and whip stitch around the first round, coming up through the center and back down between rounds 1 and 2, until you have worked around the center. Continue by making french knots where desired around the Poinsettia Center.
Poinsettia Petals: (Using Christmas Red)
Row 1) Working each petal separately: right side facing, join yarn in last st worked; ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next ch 1 sp: 2 sc.
Row 2) Ch 1, turn work; (2 sc) in first st, (2 sc) in next sc: 4 sc.
Row 3) Ch 1, turn work; (2 sc) in joining, sc in next 2 sc, (2 sc) in last sc: 6 sc.
Row 4) Ch 1, turn work; (2 sc) in joining, sc in next 4 sc, (2 sc) in last sc: 8 sc.
Row 5) Ch 1, turn work; sk first st, sc in next 6 sc, leaving last sc unworked: 6 sc.
Row 6) Ch 1, turn work; (2 sc) in joining, sc in next 3 sc, (2 sc) in next sc: 7 sc.
Row 7) Ch 1, turn work; sk first st, sc in next 4 sc: 4 sc.
Row 8) Ch 1, turn work; sk first st, sc in next sc, (2 sc) in next sc: 3 sc.
Row 9) Ch 1, turn work; sk first st, (2 sc) in next sc: 2 sc. Fasten off, secure ends.
Remaining Poinsettia Petals: (Using Christmas Red)
Row 1) Right side facing, join yarn to next sc, next to last st worked on row 1 of petals; ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next ch 1 sp: 2 sc.
Rows 2-9) Rep rows 2-9 of Poinsettia Petals until all petals have been worked: 8 petals.
