Easter Candy Basket

Materials:
Materials: Sm amts 4-ply worsted weight yarn (Lt. Green, Pink, Yellow)
Hook size G

Finishing Materials:
Tapestry needle (for ends)
Empty margarine cup or crumpled newspaper

Finished Size: 5 - 5 ½" T x 4" in dia
Gauge: 2 rows pattern repeat = ¾"

Skill Level: Medium - Advanced

Special Stitches:
Fpdc: insert hook from front to back, around the dc post, and back to the front, complete dc stitch as usual.

Esc: insert hook in next st, pull up a lp, (yo, draw through one lp) twice to complete the st.

Basket:

Rnd 1) Starting at bottom: using lt green, ch 4; (11 dc) in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs skipped count as first dc); join with a sl st to first dc (4th ch of beg ch 4): 12 dc.

Rnd 2) Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in joining; * (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 24 dc.

Rnd 3) Ch 3, (2 dc) in next dc; * dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 36 dc.

Rnd 4) (Working in back lps only): Starting sides: ch 3; * dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 36 dc. End off lt green.

Rnd 5) Join pink to dc post at joining with a sl st; ch 3; * fpdc over next dc post see special sts; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first st: 36 fpdc. End off pink.

Rnd 6) Join yello to st post at joining with a sl st; ch 3; * fpdc over next st post; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first st: 36 fpdc. End off yellow.

Rnd 7) Join lt green to dc post at joining with a sl st; ch 3; * fpdc over next st post; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first st: 36 fpdc. End off lt green.

Rnds 8-9) Rep rnds 5-6. (Do not end off).

Handle: (Using yellow)

Row 1) (Working in back lps throughout); ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next st: 2 sc.

Row 2) Ch 1, turn work; sc in next 2 sc: 2 sc. You may want to mark back lps for later st placement.

Row 3) Ch 1, turn work; (sc in back lp on row 2 and through the back lp on row 1) twice (marked sts): 2 sc.

Row 4)Ch 1, turn work; (sc in back lp on row 3 and through the back lp on row 2) twice: 2 sc.

Rem Rows) Continue working handle using pattern rep (sc in back lp of previous 2 rows), until handle measures approx. 8" to 10" in length. Fasten off, leaving a 6" tail.

Basket Ruffle: (Using lt green)

Rnd 1) Join yarn to any st to front lp only; working from the inside of basket; (ch 2, esc, ch 2, esc) in joining see special sts, sk next st; * (esc, ch 2, esc) in next st, sk next st; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first esc: 18 scallops. Fasten off; secure ends.

Finishing:

Thread tapestry needle with 6" tail from handle and sew the end of handle to opposite side of basket to secure. Basket can be filled with crumpled newspaper on the bottom and topped with grass, or insert an empty margarine cup. With double strands of pink yarn, tie bows to each side of handle at base of basket.
