Steel crochet hook size 8 USA (1.50 mm)

Finished Size: Fits lampshade measuring; 4” H x 2 ½” in dia. at top of lampshade/ 5” in dia. at bottom of shade
Gauge: 3 rows of shells = ¾”

Beg Shell: (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in indicated st.

Shell: (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in indicated st.

Ch 84; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist ch.

Rnd 1) Starting at top-Eyelet rnd: ch 5 (counts as first dc plus ch 2), sk next 2 ch; * dc in next ch, ch 2, sk next 2 ch; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 28 dc/28 ch 2-sps.

Rnd 2) Ch 1, sc in joining; * (2 sc) in next sp, sc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 84 sc.

Rnd 3) Ch 1, sc in joining; * ch 5, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around; ch 1, dc in first sc forming last lp on rnd: 42 ch 5-sps.

Rnd 4) (Ch 1, sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp; * ch 5, sc in next sp, ch 3, sc in same sp; rep from * around; ch 1, dc in first sc forming last lp on rnd.

Rnd 5) (Ch 1, sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp; * ch 5, sc in next ch 5 sp, ch 3, sc in same sp; rep from * around; ch 1, dc in first sc forming last lp on rnd.

Skirt Edging:

Rnd 16) Bet shell in joining see special sts, ch 2; * shell in 5th ch of next ch 9 sp see special sts, ch 2; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc, sl st in shell sp: 42 shells.

Rnd 17) (Ch 6, dc) in same sp (counts as a beg V st), ch 3, sc in next sp (bet shells), ch 3; * V st in next shell sp see special sts, ch 3, sc in next sp (bet shells), ch 3; rep from * around; join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 6, sl st in next sp: 42 V sts.

Rnd 18) Beg shell in same sp, ch 2, sk next 2 sps; * shell in next V st sp, ch 2, sk next 2 sps; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc, sl st in shell sp: 42 shells.

Rnd 19) Ch 8, sl st in 4th ch from hook (first picot made), ch 1, dc in same sp, ch 3, sc in next sp (bet shells), ch 3; * (dc, ch 1, picot, ch 1, dc) in next shell sp, ch 3, sc in next sp (bet shells), ch 3; rep from * around; join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 8. Fasten off; secure ends.

Top Ruffle:

Rnd 1) Join thread to any foundation ch opposite a dc at top of lampshade cover; ch 1, sc in joining, (2 sc) in next sp; * sc in next ch (opposite a dc), (2 sc) in next sp; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc: 84 sc.

Rnd 2) Beg shell in joining, ch 2, sk next 5 sc; * shell in next sc, ch 2, sk next 5 sc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc, sl st in shell sp: 14 shells.

Rnd 3) Rep rnd 19 for skirt edging.

Finishing:

Cover can be shaped by lightly spraying with water or spray starch, if desired and pressing on the wrong side using a cool iron setting. Weave a ribbon through rnd 1 (eyelet rnd) of cover and tie into a bow.

Option: Another length of ribbon (approx 2-yds.) can be woven in rnd 17 of skirt edging and tied into a bow.
