Bulb Coaster: (Using dark sage)
Rnd 1) Ch 2; (12 hdc) in 2md ch from hook; join with a sl st to first hdc: 12 hdc.
Rnd 2 Ch 1; (2 hdc) in joining; * (2 hdc) in next hdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first hdc: 24 hdc.
Rnd 3) Ch 1, hdc in joining, (2 hdc) in next hdc; * hdc in next hdc, (2 hdc) in next hdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first hdc: 36 hdc.
Rnd 4) Ch 1, hdc in joining, hdc in next hdc, (2 hdc) in next hdc; * hdc in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc) in next hdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first hdc: 48 hdc.
Rnd 5) Ch 1, hdc in joining, hdc in next 2 hdc, (2 hdc) in next hdc; * hdc in next 3 hdc, (2 hdc) in next hdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first hdc: 60 hdc. Fasten off; secure ends.
Trim: (Using Caron Christmas red)
Thread a tapestry needle with an 18" length of yarn. Working a design similar to the one shown above, work long and short stitches through existing stitches on rnds 2 and 3. Fasten off; secure ends.
Bulb Top: (Using gold)
Row 1) With wrong side of bulb coaster facing, join yarn to any st on last rnd with a sl st; ch 1, hdc in joining, hdc in next 3 sts: 4 hdc.
Row 2) Ch 1, turn work; hdc in first hdc, hdc in last 3 hdc: 4 hdc. Fasten off; secure ends.
Holly Leaves: (Using lt green) (make 2)
Row 1) Ch 9; sl st in 4th ch from hook [(dc, ch 1, sl st in top of dc just made, ch 1, sc) in next ch, sc in next ch] twice, sl st in last ch, working up opposite side in free lps of beg ch (foundation ch), [sc in next ch, (dc, ch 1, sl st in top of dc just made, ch 1, sc) in next ch] twice, ch 1, sl st in top of leaf. Fasten off; secure ends.
Finishing:
Secure holly leaves to coaster as shown in photo. Cut an 18" length of Caron Christmas yarn and pull ends through the stitches near the leaves and under the bulb top. Tie a double square knot and then slip the ends of the yarn back through the coaster, bringing them up at a different place. Tie a second double square knot repeating, once more for a total of 3 "berries." Fasten off; secure ends.
