Free Scented Coaster

Sm amt 100% cotton thread, size 10
Steel crochet hook size 8 USA (1.50 mm)
Finishing Materials:
1 Used dryer sheet
Scented oil
Finished Size: 4 1/4" dia
Gauge: 2 rnds = 1/2"
Skill Level: Intermediate
Special Stitches:
Fpdc: yo, insert hook from the front of dc post in previous rnd to the back, around the post and back to the front, draw up a lp, (yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) twice to complete the st.

Coaster: (Make 2)
Ch 6; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1) Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (23 dc) in ring; join with a sl st to first dc (3rd ch of beg ch 3): 24 dc.
Rnd 2) Ch 3, (2 dc) in joining, fpdc around next dc post see special sts; * (3 dc) in next dc, fpdc around next dc post; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 36 dc/12 fpdc.
Rnd 3) Ch 3, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc around next fpdc; * dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc around next fpdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 48 dc/12 fpdc.
Rnd 4) Ch 3, dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc around next fpdc; * dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc around next fpdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 60 dc/12 fpdc.
Rnd 5) Ch 3, dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, fpdc around next fpdc; * dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, fpdc around next fpdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 72 dc/12 fpdc.
Rnd 6) Ch 3, dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, fpdc around next fpdc; * dc in next 2 dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, fpdc around next fpdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 84 dc/12 fpdc.
Rnd 7) Ch 1; sc in joining, sc in next 2 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, sc in next 3 dc, sc around fpdc; * sc in next 3 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, sc in next 3 dc, sc around fpdc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 84 sc/12 fpsc. Fasten off; secure ends. Mark this rnd as RS of work. (Do not fasten off on second piece - top piece).
Preparing the insert:
Using the bottom coaster as a template; place over used folded dryer sheet and draw around the coaster. Cut out along marked circle. Lightly scent the dryer sheet with a couple drops of scented oil. A new dryer sheet can be used and once the scent is gone can be refreshed with scented oil.
Joining & Edging:
Rnd 8) Sl st in next 3 sc; holding both top and bottom pieces together, right sides facing out, sl st in next ch 3 sp through both pieces to join; (ch 3, 8 dc) in same sp through both pieces, sk next 3 sc, sc in next fpsc; * (9 dc) in next ch 3 sp, sk next 3 sc, sc in next fpsc; rep from * around, inserting prepared dryer sheet between the top and bottom pieces when over half way around coaster edging; join with a sl st to first dc: 12 scallops. Fasten off; secure ends.
Re-Scenting Coaster - Sachet:
Using an eye dropper, squeeze a couple drops of scented oil into the center of the coaster. Hot drinks placed on coaster will help emit more fragrance with use.
Caution:
This coaster is made for warm and/or hot beverages and not cold glasses. Care should be given when placing hot beverages on any “padded” coaster where cups could easily topple.
