Note: On Round 3 of Hotpad Front & Face, carry the yarn through your work for color changes.

Sun Hotpad Back:
Rnd 1) Ch 3; 10 esc in 3rd chain from hook: 10 esc. Esc:/Extended Single Crochet Insert hook in next st, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop on hook, yo, draw through last 2 loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Rnd 2) Ch 2, 2 esc in joining; * 2 esc in next esc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first esc: 20 esc.

Rnd 3) Ch 2, esc in joining; 2 esc in next esc; * esc in next esc, 2 esc in next esc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first esc: 30 esc.

Rnd 4) Ch 2, esc in joining, esc in next esc, 2 esc in next esc; * esc in next 2 esc, 2 esc in next esc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first esc: 40 esc.

Rnd 5) Ch 2, esc in joining, esc in next 2 esc, 2 esc in next esc; * esc in next 3 esc, 2 esc in next esc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first esc: 50 esc.

Rnd 6) Ch 2, esc in joining, esc in next 3 esc, 2 esc in next esc; * esc in next 4 esc, 2 esc in next esc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first esc; 60 esc. Fasten off, secure ends.

Sun Hotpad Front & Face:
Rnds 1-2) Repeat instructions for Rnds 1 & 2 for Sun Hotpad Back.

Rnd 3) Carry both colors through work; Ch 2, esc in joining; (2 esc in next st, dropping old color behind and picking up new color Orange on last esc, esc in next st, esc in next st, dropping old color behind and picking up Yellow on last esc, esc in same st, esc in next st) twice, 2 esc in next st, esc in next st, 2 esc in next st, dropping old color behind and picking up Orange on last esc, (esc in next st, 2 esc in next st) 3 times, dropping old color behind and picking up Yellow on last esc, esc in next st, 2 esc in last st; join with a slip st to first esc: 30 esc. Fasten off Orange.

Rnds 4-6) Repeat instructions for Rounds 4-6 for Sun Hotpad Back. Do not end off.

Joining and Edging:
Rnd 1) Ch 1, holding both pieces right sides facing out, sc in joining and through the corresponding st on opposite piece; * sc in next st and corresponding st on opposite piece; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc: 60 sc.

Rnd 2) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 2 sc; ch 2, turn work, dc decrease over next 2 sc, ch 4, slip st in 3rd chain from hook, ch 4, turn work back, slip st in same st as last sc was worked, slip st in next sc; * ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 2 sc; ch 2, turn work, dc decrease over next 2 sc, ch 4, slip st in 3rd chain from hook, ch 4, turn work back, slip st in same st as last sc was worked, slip st in next sc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc. Fasten off, secure ends. Dc decrease: (Yo, insert hook in next st, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo, draw through last 3 loops on hook to complete the stitch.

Note: For best results, turn work back rather than around while working the points on the sun.
