Bookmark:

Row 1) Starting at top with tan: ch 10, dc in 4th ch from hook *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch* 3 times: 4 ch-1 sps.

Row 2) Ch 4, turn; *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next sp* across ending with ch 1, dc in beg. ch 4: 7dc, 2 ch-1 sps.

Rows 3-5) Ch 4, turn; dc in next 7 dc, ch 1, dc in last dc: 7dc, 2 ch-1 sps.

Row 6) Starting the arms of cross: ch 10, turn; dc in 4th ch from hook *ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch* 4 times, ch 1, dc in next 7 dc.

Row 7) Ch 10, turn; dc in 4th ch from hook, & repeat between * on Row 6, four times. Ch 1, sl st in top of next dc. Fasten off.

Row 8) With right side of work facing you, join with sl st to top of Row 7. Ch 4, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next sp* across ending up with dc, ch 1, dc in last dc.

Row 9) Ch 4, turn, dc in ea dc across ending with dc, ch 1, dc in last dc: 37 dc, 2 ch-1 sps.

Row 10) Ch 4, turn; *skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1* five times. Dc in next 7 dc, ch 1 & repeat between * six times: 7 dc, 12 ch-1 sps.

Row 11) Sc, turn; sl st over next five sps and dc, ch 4, dc in next 7 dc, ch 1, dc in next dc.

Rows 12-19) Ch 4, turn; dc in next 7 dc, ch 1, dc in ch 3 of beg ch 4: 7 dc, 2 ch-1 sps.

Row 20) Ch 4, turn; dc in next dc, *ch 1, skip next 2 dc, dc in next dc* two times. Ch 1, dc in last dc: 4 ch-1 sps. Fasten off.

Edging: (Using brown)

Join in 3rd dc on top of cross, *sc, ch 2, sc in same sp* around ending with sl st to beg sc. Ch 10 & leave 8” for attaching tassel. Fasten off.

Tassel: (Using brown)

Wrap thread around 4 fingers several times, cut end, then pull looped strands from fingers. Clip through one side of grouped strands. Fold strands and using a larger hook, pull the fold partially through the loop made on chain. Pull loose ends through the fold and cinch down. Trim ends.

Finishing:

Shape bookmark by spraying with water or spray starch, if desired, and press on the wrong side with a cool iron setting. You may stretch on a terry towel to shape and let dry.
