Steel crochet hook, size 8 USA (1.50 mm)

Motif:
Ch 6; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1) Ch 3, (counts as first dc, now and throughout), (dc, ch 1) in ring; (2 dc, ch 1) 7 times in ring; join with a slip st to first dc: 8 (2 dc) groups.

Rnd 2) Ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 2; * dc in next 2 dc, ch 2; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc.

Rnd 3) Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2; * (2 dc in next dc, ch 2) twice; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc, slip st in ch 2 space.

Rnd 4) (Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, ch 2; * skip next ch 2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 2 space (counts as a double shell, now and throughout), ch 2; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc, slip st in ch 2 space.

Rnd 5) (Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 2 space of double shell (counts as a shell, now and through- out), ch 1, skip next space; * shell in each side of next double shell space, ch 1, skip next space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc, slip st in ch 2 space.

Rnd 6) (Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space, ch 3, shell in next shell space, skip next space; * shell in next shell space, ch 3, shell in next shell space, skip next space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to first dc, slip st in ch 2 space.

Rnd 7) Ch 1, sc in same space, ch 5, sc in each space around, ending with a ch 1 and hdc in last sc (forming last loop on round).

Rnd 8) Ch 1, sc in same space; * ch 5, sc in next space; repeat from * around; ending with a ch 2 and dc in last sc (forming last loop on round).

Rnd 9) Ch 1, sc in same space; * ch 6, sc in next space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc. Fasten off, secure ends.

Finishing:
Lightly spray with water or spray starch, cover with a handkerchief and press on the wrong side using a cool iron setting.

These make nice coasters done in different colors, a sachet, top a jelly jar, make several and crochet together for a doily, a scarf, tablecloth, runner….let your imagination go!
