Special Stitches:
Dc Dec: (Yo, insert hook in next st, pull up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) as many times as stated, yo, draw through all lps on hook to complete the dec.
Apple Back: (Using red)
Row 1) Ch 6; dc in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs skipped count as first dc), dc in next ch, (2 dc) in last ch: 5 dc .
Row 2)Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn work; (2 dc) in first st, dc in next 3 dc, (3 dc) in last st: 9 dc.
Rows 3-4) Ch 3, turn work; * dc in next dc; rep from * across: 9 dc.
Row 5) Ch 2, turn work; dc dec over next 2 sts see special sts (counts as a beg dec over 3 sts), sc in next 3 sc, dc dec over last 3 sts: 3 sts. Fasten off; secure ends.
Apple Front: (Using red)
Rows 1-5) Rep rows 1-5 for apple back. (Do not end off).
Joining: (Using red)
Rnd 1) Holding both front and back together, right sides facing out; pick up dropped lp from apple front; ch 1, evenly sc around apple front and back, matching stitches, working (2 sc) over each dc post and (2 sc) in each corner; join with a sl st in first sc, filling with potpourri before stitching tops togehter. Fasten off; secure ends.
Leaves: (Using green)
Row 1) Join yarn to center sc at top of apple with a sl st; [ch 5, sc in 3rd ch from hook, (2 hdc) in next ch, sc in last ch, sl st in same st on apple] twice: 2 leaves. Fasten off; secure ends.
Finishing:
Join thread or extra yarn to top of apple and tie into a square knot creating a hanging loop.
The apple pomander can be used for hanging in school lockers, gym lockers, or even on a key chain, but also they're great for hanging in the kitchen window come fall.
