Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (Brown) Color A
Worsted weight yarn (Blue) Color B
Worsted weight yarn (Lt. Yellow) Color C
Crochet hook size F

Finishing Materials:
Tapestry needle
4 craft sticks
Tiny amount of fabric
Miniature straw hat
Glue
Magnets

Finished Size: Approx. 7 ½" tall x 5 ½" wide
Gauge: Not important to overall size

Skill Level: Medium

Special Stitches:
Dc Dec: (yo, insert hook in next st, pull up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook) as many times as stated, yo, draw through all lps on hook to complete the st.

Head: (Using Color C)

Ch 7; dc in 3rd ch from hook, trc in next 2 ch, dc in next ch, hdc in last ch, dropping old color and picking up new color, Color A.

Shirt, Yoke & Sleeves: (Using Color A)

Row 1) Yoke: ch 1, sc in joining, ch 2, sc in beg ch on head (base of hdc).

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work (counts as first dc); (8 dc) over ch 2 sp: 9 dc.

Row 3) Sleeve: ch 3, turn work; dc in joining: 2 dc.

Rows 4-5) Ch 3, turn work; dc in next dc: 2 dc. Fasten off; secure ends.

Opposite Sleeve:

Row 3) Join yarn to first dc made on row 2 of yoke, (opposite first sleeve); ch 3, dc in joining: 2 dc.

Rows 4-5) Rep rows 4 -5 of first sleeve.

Shirt:

Row 3) Sk next dc from where sleeve is worked, join yarn to next dc; ch 3, dc in next 4 dc: 5 dc.

Row 4) Ch 2, turn work; dc in next dc (counts as a dc dec over 2 sts), dc in next dc, dc dec over last 2 dc see special sts, dropping old color and picking up new color, Color B: 5 sts. Fasten off, secure ends.

Pants: (Using Color B)

Row 1) Ch 3, dc in joining, dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc: 5 dc.

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work; dc in next dc, (2 dc) in next dc, dc in last 2 dc: 6 dc.

Row 3) Finishing one pant leg only; ch 3, turn work; dc in next 2 dc: 3 dc.

Rows 4-5) Ch 3, turn work; dc in next 2 dc: 3 dc. Fasten off; secure ends on last row.

Opposite Pant Leg:

Row 3) Join yarn to end dc on row 2 of pants; ch 3, dc in next 2 dc: 3 dc.

Rows 4-5) Rep instructions for rows 4 - 5 of first pant leg. Fasten off, secure ends.

Straw Stuffing: (Using Color C)

Clip 10 pieces of yarn approx. 5-6" in length. Working with single strands, fold in half and insert into each stitch on row 5 of each pant leg, and into each stitch on row 5 of each sleeve. Pull folded portion of yarn through the stitch working from the right side, grab the ends and pull through the fold. Pull snug to tighten. Continue until all strands have been attached. Clip ends on pant legs to 1 1/4" in length and clip ends on sleeves to 3/4" in length. Fray ends by splitting the strands.

Finishing:

Cut 2-3 "patches" from fabric and glue where desired on scarecrow. On back, (scarecrow's front) glue 1 craft stick across body, from one arm, across the body and over the next arm. Ends of craft stick will protrude beyond the sleeves. Glue 2 craft sticks to legs in an upside down "V" shape.

Turn scarecrow over. His back facing, and glue a 1" length of craft stick to head (for strength when hat is worn). Glue along edge of head and place straw hat at a slight angle.

Glue magnets to craft sticks on back.
