100% cotton thread, size 10 (Black)
Small amt. cotton thread, size 10 (Orange or variegated Orange)
Steel crochet hook, size 8 USA (1.50 mm)

Finished Size: 9 1/2" L (including spider) x 2 1/4" W
Gauge: Not important to over all size

Skill Level: Medium

Bookmark: (Using Black)

Row 1) Ch 24; dc in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs skipped count as first dc), dc in next 20 ch: 22 dc.

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work; * dc in next dc; rep from * across: 22 dc.

Rows 3-27) Follow chart below. Fasten off, secure ends after row 27 is completed.

Spider: (Using orange & black)

Rnd 1) Starting with head: using orange; ch 2; (2 sc, hdc, dc, hdc, 3 sc) in 2nd ch from hook; join with a sl st in first sc. (Mark center dc with a marker for later st placement). Fasten off, secure ends.

Row 2) Starting body: using black; join with thread to center dc on head (marked st) with a sl st; ch 1, (sc, hdc, dc, 3 trc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st) in joining. (Do not end off).

Rnd 3) Working legs and web: ch 1, turn work (working around the body of the spider); * (sl st in next st on body, ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, sl st in same st on body) 3 times, * sl st in next st, ch 15, sl st in any bottom st on bookmark, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next 13 ch, sl st in same st on body, rep from * to * once; sl st in next st on body. Fasten off, secure ends.

Finishing:

Bookmark can be shaped by spraying with water and stretching on a terry towel to dry.
