Doily
Row 1) Ch 10; slip st in 1st st, ch 11, dtr in ring, (ch 3, dtr in ring) 12 times, ch 3, slip st in 8th st of 1st 11-ch.
Row 2) Ch 3, (4 dc in next sp, 1 dc in dtr) repeated around; slip st in first 3-ch and in next 2 dc.
Row 3) Ch 1, sc in next dc, (ch 7, skip 3 dc, sc in next 2 dc) 13 times, ch 3, dc in 1st 1-ch.
Row 4) Ch 8, turn, 5 dtr in dc, (ch 6, 6 dtr in center st of next loop) repeated around; ch 3, dc in first 8-ch.
Row 5) Turn work; 2 dc in last dtr; * 1 trc in next dtr, 2 trc in next, ch 5, slip st in last trc for a picot, 2 trc in next dtr, 1 trc in next, 2 dc in next, sc in 6-ch loop, 2 dc in next dtr; repeat from * around.
Row 6) Slip st to 3rd st from picot, ch 12, dc in 3rd trc to left of next picot; * ch 9, dc in 3rd trc before next picot, ch 9, dc in 3rd trc to left of same picot; repeat from * around, end with 4-ch, trc in 3rd st of 1st 12-ch.
Row 7) (Ch 13, sc in next loop) repeated around with ch 6 and dtr for final loop.
Row 8) Repeat Row 4.
Row 9) Repeat Row 5, except make only 1 dc in 1st and last dtr of each pattern.

Row 15) Slip st to 1st 1-ch space; * (ch 6, sc in next space) 8 times, ch 6, sc in 1st space on next shell; repeat from * around, with 3-ch and dc for end loop.
Row 16) Turn work; (ch 7, sc in next loop) repeated around, with 3 ch and dc for end loop.
Row 17) Turn work; and make 9-ch loops around with 4-ch and trc for end loop.
Row 18) Turn work; 11-ch loops around, 5-ch and trc for end loop.
Row 19) Turn work; 12-ch loops, 6-ch and trc for end loop.

Finishing
Dip doily in hot, cooked starch (about 2 tsps starch in 1 cup water). Roll in a towel to absorb excess. Stretch and iron ruffle until partly stiffened. Pin down center to keep it flat, arrange ruffle in even ripples and let dry.
