This pattern was first sold in the Seasonal/Holiday Towel Ring Set. It's a lovely gift for mom and works up rather quickly. But best of all, it's not only a functional and useful towel ring to hold a hand or kitchen towel, but it's also a sachet! It's made so the towel can be removed for easy laundering.

This pattern is in text format and written in English. The towel topper is worked in the round.

  • Sm amt 4-ply WW yarn ea (Aran & blue)
  • Crochet hook size G/6 (4.25 mm)

Ring: (Using blue & G hook)
 

Rnd 1) Join yarn to ring with a sl st; ch 1, sc over ring; evenly sc over ring placing an even number of sc to cover ring entirely; join with a sl st in first sc.

 

Rnd 2) Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in joining, sk next sc; * (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc, sk next sc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off; secure ends.

 

Hat Front: (Using Aran & G hook)
 

Rnd 1) Starting at crown: ch 4; (9 dc) in 4th ch from hook (first 3 ch skipped count as first dc); join with a sl st to 4th ch of beg ch 4: 10 dc.

 

Rnd 2) Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), dc in joining; * (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to top of first st: 20 dc.

 

Rnd 3) Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, (2 dc) in next dc; * dc in next 4 dc, (2 dc) in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first dc: 24 dc.

 

Rnd 4) * Sl st in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in front lp of first st.

Rnd 4) Ch 1, sc in joining; * sc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc: 60 sc. Fasten off; secure ends.

 

Hat Edging and Joining: (Using blue & G hook)
 

Rnd 1) Holding both the front and back together, RS facing out, join yarn to any ch 1 sp on hat and through any sc on hat back with a sl st; working through both front and back to join, [sc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, sc in next st, sl st in next st (ch 1 sp on front and sc on back piece)] 6 times, (working in top piece only), sc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next sp, sc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc, holding ring at top of work, sl st in next sp and through any ch 2 sp on ring, sc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next sp, sc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sk next 5 ch 2-sps on ring and sl st in next sp on front and through next ch 2 sp on ring, (sc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next sp) twice; join with a sl st in first st: 12 scallops with 2 dc & 2 sc ea. Sachet Back: (Using Aran & G hook)
 

Rnd 1) Ch 4; (17 dc) in 4th ch from hook, (first 3 ch skipped count as first dc); join with a sl st to first dc: 18 dc.

 

Rnd 2) Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next dc, (2 sc) in next dc; * sc in next 2 dc, (2 sc) in next dc: 24 sc. (Do not join).

 

Joining: Hold hat front close to work, WS facing, sl st in first sc on sachet back to join the rnd, and through back lp of st next to joining on rnd 3 of hat front; sl st in next 11 sts through both pieces to join sachet back to hat (creating a flap to hold sachet inside the crown of the hat): 12 sts. Fasten off; secure ends.

 

Button: (Using blue & F hook)
 

Rnd 1) Ch 3, (8 sc) in 3rd ch from hook; join with a sl st in first sc: 8 sc. Fasten off; secure ends.

 

Finishing:

Sew button to the inside of hat, opposite ch 1 sp at center bottom of hat using a needle and thread. Sew button as you would any button. Place potpourri in tulle and gather edges around the potpourri, tying the top together. Place in crown. Secure the sachet back to crown by pulling a piece of Aran yarn through sts in top of last rnd on sachet back and through back sts on crown of hat; tie into a bow. Weave blue yarn through rnd 3 of hat crown and tie into a bow at center top of hat. Trim ends.
