The Mystery Lapghan Crochet-a-Long FAQ: please read!

    • We will be sharing the photos and links to 36 different 6-inch afghan square patterns. This is enough for a 36-inch square lapghan – a little bigger after you add the joins and border.

    • The patterns will all be FREE, from a variety of designers. Please respect copyrights.

    • All of the patterns will call for a US-I/9 (5.5 mm) hook and worsted or aran weight yarn – yarn symbol 4. Use the yarn(s) of your choice.

    • We will share a new pattern every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

    • This will also finish up all the blocks on November 4th, leaving November 13th through December 12th for joining them together.

    • We will be making the squares right along with you – let’s do this together!

    • We will be having a link up party of all your finished lapghans. They will be voted on and the top (3) three will win some great prizes (prizes to be announced later)!!

    • Worried about missing a square? Sign up for our newsletters – it includes a link to every post from that week, so you’ll be sure to see it.

    • Want to share your photos as we go? Post them in our facebook group here.

    • Don’t like the square we posted that week? Pick a new one! You can do more than one of the same square, just be sure to have 36 finished squares.

Schedule For Squares (subject to change)

We ask that you have your squares finished, joined and photographed by the 12th of December. You can link up your photos from December 12th through the 16th. Voting will take place from December 16th through December 23rd. Winners will be posted on our website December 27th at 11:00 am (est).

      • Wonderful! There are so many things to learn and others have reported they have actually started learning how to read pattern instruction. It opens a whole new world in crochet for folks and is exciting. Thank you for taking time to comment!

    23. Hi Cylinda! I just recently joined in on the CAl & playing catch up. But having so much fun doing so though. I have a problem as well getting to FB for the group. The page says temporarily down. Not sure what’s going on.

      • Hi Debra, I’m so glad you’re having fun with catching up on the squares. I just invited you by email to join the FB group. It was switched to a secret group which means no one can find it. I’m not sure why that decision was made but according to FB rules, you can’t revert back to closed, or open. I hope you enjoy both the squares and the group!

    27. I have recently picked up the hook. My grandmother made me learn the basic knitting and crochet skills as a child, but I was always more into sewing and clothing design. I recently worked on a project that I needed to make 10 sock monkey hats in less than a week. Whew! Thanks to YouTube I taught myself how to do this and was one hat short. I have left over yarn from that project and a new desire to become a crafty hooker. 😉 When I got this link through “scoopfix” I said to myself I have to try this project and look forward to seeing what everyone turns out. I was hoping to join the FaceBook page, but the link is not working. How many skeins of yarn does a usual afghan take? I understand it will vary depending on squares. Woohoo! I guess I better get started since I am a little behind.

      • Hi Mz Star, it’s so interesting learning about how you became interested in learning to crochet from your grandmother and happy that you are anxious to start up again. I have added you to the group CAL and hope you received the email confirmation to join. If not, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope you enjoy the group and the squares – it’s been a lot of fun!

      • Hi Lisa, I added you to the group a couple days ago I believe and you should have received an email confirmation. I hope you enjoy the CAL and the group! 🙂

    28. Hi, I would like to join the cal. Every time I try to go to the FB page I get a blank page stating that it’s down. Can you please add me. Thanks

    32. Not able to sign up for newsletter. Also how much yarn should I buy?
      Thank you for your help.

      • You’re already signed up. I don’t know – each square will be different and designed by 28 other designers.

    35. Am I signed up? I thought so but haven’t received confirmation to the best of my knowledge. I’m trying to receive the patterns on my email address. I don’t do well on the Facebook part of doing things. Just enough to get me into trouble.

      • Carole you are already subscribed to the newsletter. Would you like to be subscribed for updates (when posts are published?).

    36. I’m trying to sign up for your newsletter 🙂 not sure if I’ve managed it . Dont want to miss any of the CAL 🙂
      Thankyou for your help .

      • Dianne, I just signed you up, but you’ll have to click on the confirmation for it to go through completely when it arrives in your emailbox! Thank you

      • You’re all signed up Kathy! It looks like when you tried it went through okay. I’m excited too! 🙂

      • Annette, it’s strictly up to you. At this point we don’t know what any of the squares will look like because they’ll be introduced by various designers. Some will design new squares while others may bring back older projects that haven’t been seen in awhile. So that’s the party that will be a mystery! I suggest buying colors you like or want to use in your home etc. Maybe pick 2 to 3 colors. The lapghan is going to be 6 squares per row and 6 squares per column. That should give you an idea of how you’d like to lay out your colors or the number of colors you’d like to use. 😉

      • I’m with you Dianne – I can’t wait to start either. I hope you enjoy the CAL and it’s everything you hope it to be! 🙂
