The CAL will be delivered over the next 3 Wednesdays. Each Wednesday more sections will be added for the tablet cover, but even if you don’t need a tablet cover, this would still make a great tote!

- Sm skein Red Heart 4-ply WW yarn ea (dk gray & white)
- Crochet hook size I/9 (5.50 mm)

Skill Level: Intermediate
Finished Size: 11 1/2″ W x 9″ T
Gauge: 4 rows pat rep = approx 2″
Twisted Cord/Tc: insert hook in indicated st, pull up a lp, turn crochet counter clockwise 180 degrees, yo, draw through both lps on hook, turn crochet counter clockwise 180 degrees again to front of work to complete the st.
Sc Dec: (insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a lp) as many times as indicated, yo, draw through all lps on hook to complete the st.

Row 1) Starting at bottom: with gray, ch 39; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across working in back hump of ea ch: 38 sc.
Row 2) Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), turn work; sk the first 2 sc, dc in next 3 sc, working over the last 3 dc just made (enclosing them within the new stitches), dc in the last skipped sc; * sk next sc, dc in next 3 sc, working over the last 3 dc just made, dc in the last skipped sc; rep from * across, dc in last sc dropping old color behind and picking up new color (white): 38 dc.
Row 3) With new color, ch 1, turn work; sc in ea dc across: 38 sc.
Row 4) Ch 3, turn work; sk next sc, dc in next 3 sc, working over the last 3 sc just made, dc in the last skipped sc; * sk next sc, dc in next 3 sc, working over the last 3 sc just made, dc in the last skipped sc; rep from * across, dc in last sc dropping old color behind and picking up new color: 38 dc.
Rows 5-18) Rep row 3-4 respectively; drop white on last row (row 16) and cut.
Rows 19-20) Ch 1, turn work; sc in ea dc across: 38 sc.
Row 21) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 11 sc, ch 14 (handle opening formed), sk next 14 sc, sc in last 12 sc: 24 sc/1 ch 14-sp.
Row 22) Ch 1, turn work; sc in first sc, sc in next 11 sc, sc in ea of next 14 ch, sc in last 12 sc: 38 sc.
Row 23) Ch 1, turn work; Tc in ea st across see special sts; sl st in last st: 38 Tc. Fasten off; secure ends. Mark this as WS of work.
instructions are basically a repeat of the first week but gives one plenty of time to make both sides of the tote.
Opposite Tote Side:
Row 1) With tote WS facing join gray to first st at end of row opposite row 1 working in front lps only; ch 1, sc in same st; sc in ea st across working in front lps this row only: 38 sc.
Rows 2-23) Rep rows 2-23 for first tote side.
We’re finishing the tote!
Joining & Edging: (Using gray)
Row 1) Joining three sides of tote: holding both sides of tote with WS facing together; join yarn to end sc on row 22 with a sl st; ch 1; sc in joining through both sides to join, working around the tote to join front and back, sc over ea sc row, (3 sc) over ea dc row, and work a sc in ea st across bottom, working around to row 22 on opposite side: 100 sc. Fasten off; secure ends. Mark this side as RS of work.
Button Flap: (Using white)
Row 1) With WS facing (back of tote), join yarn to back lp of 5th sc at handle opening (row 21) with a sl st (sts will be facing the front of the tote); ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next 5 sc working in back lps only: 6 sc.
Rows 2-8) Ch 1, turn work; sc in ea st across: 6 sc.
Row 9) Ch 1, turn work; sc dec over first 2 sc see special sts, sc in next 2 sc, sc dec over last 2 sc: 4 sc.
Row 10) Ch 1, turn work; sc dec over first 2 sc, ch 5 (button lp formed), sc dec over last 2 sc: 2 sc/1 ch 5-sp.
Row 11) Ch 1, turn work; (7 sc) in ch 5 sp button lp; join with a sl st in last sc dec: 7 sc. Fasten off; secure ends.
Button: (Optional) (Using gray)
Rnd 1) Form a magic circle with yarn; ch 1, (12 hdc) in ring; join with a sl st to top of first hdc: 12 hdc. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to tote front.
Pull button flap through handles to the front of the tote. Align button opening of flap to tote front and position button. Sew button in place much like you would any button.
Inert tablet and you’re ready to go!
