About Crochet Memories

Crochet Memories was founded in January 1997 after deciding to publish my patterns on the internet. I'm Cylinda Mathews, owner and designer. I began my designing career in the early 1980's in my quest to find unique thread patterns. I enjoy creating beautiful and unique projects for my family and customers, but by 1996, I was ready for a career in selling my original designs.

Crochet Memories has hundreds of published patterns in various mediums, all which with the help of my wonderful husband, Ron, and dedicated pattern tester, Vicki Mashburn, are made possible. I give credit to Ron who takes all the photographs and does the front cover layouts for our pattern packs and booklets sold through Annie's Attic and our Magazines Page. Vicki has spent many dedicated hours in working up these designs, testing for accuracy so you can be assured your patterns are correct.

I currently have published designs with Leisure Arts and sell leaflets through Annie's Attic. I enjoy the freedom of selling my designs through Crochet Memories and pledge to provide quality, error free patterns in a larger print, an easy to read format, clear photos, a complete list of materials needed for each project, as well as abbreviations and definitions. Every purchase comes with the guarantee of free online help should you have questions.

Our mission goal is to provide quality patterns. While we are not the largest crochet site on the internet, you can be assured many hours have gone into writing and testing our patterns. That's why we've grown slowly - dedication, accurateness, and customer service is priority, and takes time. "I have to tell you how much I am enjoying your designs. The best thing about them is that they lay FLAT when you crochet them. A lot of patterns I have worked in the past have had to be adjusted to make them lay flat, or I had to get really aggresive in the blocking. I hate doing that. My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was about 7 (I am currently 49), and as she only crocheted with thread, that was what I learned with. It is still my favorite type of crochet. "I finished a Pineapple Lavender Lace Doily in less than 24 hours. The patterns were ordered on-line, then sent to me by e-mail. I had patterns within a few hours of looking at them on-line. Fast, easy, convenient. The large, colorful pictures enticed me to start working. They are also very clear and detailed so that I could check my work against the picture if I was unsure of something in the written directions. I like the fact that the special stitches are at the beginning along with the materials needed list. I can read over and make sure I know the stitches before I start to work. If I'm not familiar with a stitch, I can pick up a hook and a ball of practice thread and work on them. It's frustrating to get into the middle of a project, and then find a stitch that I'm not familiar with, and the directions are not clearly written. These directions were well written, I never stopped to say ""What does that mean? What am I supposed to do?"" Finally, my finished project looks as great as the pattern model. I really like the idea of your "crochet along" projects. So far I have downloaded two completed projects, hope to soon join you in a "crochet along". Your site will remain on my Favorites list.
